CASE STUDY 2 :

Rare 18th Century Anglo- Indian Micro Mosaic
Inlaid Tea Caddy

This wonderful Micro Mosaic Tea Caddy, which is a mix of Indian and English design, consisted of thousands of tiny pieces of stained wood, bone and small pieces of possibly copper.

It was badly damaged, in several areas, with missing inlay. In other areas, the inlays was lifting and bulging.

First of all, the loose sections were carefully lifted and photographed to ensure when re-fitted they went back into their original positions.

The loose sections were then cleaned and glued back into their original positions. Animal glue was used to secure the pieces.

To replace the missing areas, tiny pieces of inlay were made by hand and glued into position.

Once all repairs had been made, the old dirty prished polish was very carefully cleaned. The Caddy was revived to reveal its original vibrant colours and amazing design.
