Antique Furniture Restoration and Conservation
The conservation and restoration of antique furniture requires the attention of craftsmen who both understand and respect the history of the piece. The success of this work is dependent on originality of colour and patination and, wherever possible, the conservation of whatever remains of original components. This basic philosophy is upheld by Heldreich French Polishers.
Early Victorian Burr Walnut Kidney-Shaped Davenport Desk
Sections let into split carcass and sections of missing interior replaced. Missing brass gallery replaced. Original finish and leather revived.
18th Century Walnut and Fruitwood Veneered Side Table
Legs had been cut down to be used as a coffee table. The legs were extended using existing inlaid and crossbanded features as a guide. European Walnut used and all crossbanding and inlay handmade. Once sections grafted, they were distressed and matched into original legs. A modern varnish was removed from the piece and the table re-oiled as per original finish.
Conservation of a Queen Anne Walnut Shepherds Crook Elbow Chair
Original pigment varnish finish sun-bleached, cleaned and revived original finish.
Restoration of a George II Walnut Corner Chair
Original oil-based finish perished by sunlight. Carefully cleaned and revived original finish.
Regency Mahogany Twin Pedestal Dining Table
The original finish of this table was lightly sun-bleached, so it was carefully cleaned and revived to reveal a soft golden patina.
George III Secretaire Mahogany Bookcase
This piece had been separated many years ago and was being used as two individual pieces in the same house. They were reunited and carefully restored to turn the piece back to its former glory.
