CASE STUDY 1 :
Water Damaged Gillows Library
Credenza Bookcase – Mid 19th Century
This piece had been badly damaged by water, which resulted in a large amount of the veneers and mouldings peeling and lifting away from the carcus.
The polish finish had also been stained and discoloured by the water.
After this piece had dried out, I removed the remaining loose veneers and mouldings. Once removed and logged , each piece was cleaned and re-glued back into its original position.
Some veneers and mouldings were missing completely, so new pieces had to be made and fitted.
Once all veneers and mouldings had been secured , damaged finish had to be carefully removed and the whole piece traditionally re-french polished.
